Inlays and onlays are often referred to as partial crowns. They strengthen the tooth, restore its shape, and prevent further damage. An inlay/onlay is much more conservative than a full-coverage crown and allows more of the natural tooth structure to be preserved.
In the past, this process took two appointments and involved wearing a temporary for 2-3 weeks. However, with the aid of computer-assisted technology, our office consolidates this process into one visit. The first step involves removing old fillings, decay or cracks in the tooth. Next, digital images are taken to create a 3D model of your mouth. We design your inlay/onlay at the chair-side and our in-office milling unit mills your restoration. After trying in and confirming the fit, your inlay/onlay will be bonded in place.
